Dr Kas, who is a committee member of the Emergency Department Design Committee of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, had the following to say, “Emergency Department and Trauma Centre Design, are incredibly challenging fields within architectural design. They require an exacting knowledge of how this field of medicine - which is in a constant state of flux - works. Current guidelines adapted and continually revised both in Australia and the United States, need total review to ascertain their real validity in today’s climate. We need to see whether these guidelines really are current today, as well as incorporating design for the principles of wellbeing within them”. The research is being conducted in the Department of Architecture and Planning at The University of Melbourne.
