AIRWAY CPR AND TRAUMAAIRWAY CPR AND TRAUMA

Blog imageBlog image   Thank you to all the Doctors who recently undertook the 'Airway CPR and Trauma Management' workshop. This was designed specifically to deal with issues that may occur when medically covering the horse racing events. It was great to see everyone play all out. The group also consisted of critical care trained nurses and emergency nurses. It was a full day and we got to cover the essentials of airway and trauma management directly in relation to horse racing. It was fortunate that this training was done as the week after a jockey came off and suffered intra-cerebral injuries and bilateral haemopneumothoraces. The doctor on the ground had done the training and was thankful for it. Sometimes its about not knowing what we don't know. We may all think that we can cope with a scenario, we intellectualise it. When that scenario really occurs we may have difficulty. The solution is placing ourselves in that scenario. SOMA Health was set up as a vehicle for improving health and resus.com.au is the education portal. The workshops put us into those scenarios so we feel uncomfortable. It is only then that we can practice and plan what we do. One of the doctors participating in the course sent me an email following the course and it read: Ignorance may be bliss, but recognition of the risks under which I have been putting others- thankfully without any apparent sequelae- is rather frightening. I will do my utmost to be better prepared! We sometimes don't know what we don't know! Take part in a good course and improve your skills as those patients depend on you!   Peter Kas
