SOMA continues to invest in the community with recent announcements relating to the creation of the John Barnett Scholarship and sponsorship of Cochlear implants.
SOMA Health MD Peter Kas said today “We
wanted to continue the work of the late John Barnett who was one of the
founders of Interplast, a brilliant plastic surgeon, and a dedicated
family man. John Barnett was committed to teaching and to the use of
his skills for those less fortunate. He donated his time, tirelessly,
to the people in need in Papua New Guinea and Fiji. He operated there
and taught there, and wanted to establish local skills so that plastic
surgery was always provided in these areas. To this purpose, we have
made the John Barnett Scholarship available”.
“In addition,
having been personally touched by deafness, we wanted to give children
the chance to hear. We fund research into deafness, and sponsor
cochlear implants” Mr Kas said.
